For your initial consultation, we will ascertain whether you require aromatherapy for medicinal or therapeutic purposes (or both). We will complete your Client Profile and Assessment Form to record your medical history, overall health and general lifestyle to establish any contraindications, sensitivities or adverse reactions.
We develop a wellness Client Care Plan based on your health assessment and personal needs. This plan details your symptoms or conditions, planned aromatherapy treatments and recommendations, techniques and mediums to use, your desired outcome and homecare advice. Then the aromatherapy healing process begins ...
Usually, one of our ready-made-blends will target and suit your particular purpose and need. However ... what happens if you don't like a particular essential oil or a certain fragrance? We all resonate with different scents from our past experiences, our memories and how scents make us feel. Some essential oils are quite polarising and you might prefer other options.
In this particular case, we discuss alternative essential oils that can serve the same purpose to meet your needs. You will 'experiment' with a variety of scents to stimulate your senses in a positive way. I will then create an individualised product for you that you can relate to, resonate with and enjoy (with all the therapeutic properties that benefit you personally).
Although our primary focus is on aromatherapy for women's health, wellness and wellbeing, we also specialise in pre and post natal care for both mums and bubs. Using 100% pure essential oils for expectant mums and babies, is natural, non-evasive, therapeutic and highly beneficial for antenatal care.
Aromatherapy, as you know, is a safe and non-invasive way of working towards a state of holistic wellness. Aromatherapy can help with ailments and discomforts experienced by expectant mothers, from relieving nausea, to calming frayed nerves, to alleviating pain. However, there are necessary precautions to take, such as knowing the contraindications (some oils should be avoided altogether during pregnancy).
Our pre & post natal consultations are quite comprehensive ...
We will complete your Client Profile and Assessment Form to record your medical history, overall health and general lifestyle to establish any contraindications, sensitivities or adverse reactions.
We then develop a more holistic management plan that includes your treatment expectations and wellness goals. We also implement an Aromatherapeutic Treatment Plan, develop a Birth Plan for labour & delivery and initiate Post-Natal Review Treatment Plans (home visits optional).
You will 'experiment' with a variety of scents to stimulate your senses in a positive way. I will formulate an individualised blend for you, with all the therapeutic properties that benefit you personally. Aromatherapy can assist in all the joyful side effects of pregnancy!
There are many essential oils to alleviate the physical and emotional stresses that pregnancy may bring: morning sickness, fatigue, anxiety, heartburn & indigestion, insomnia, stretch marks, mood swings, constipation, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, muscular cramps, oedema, backache, infections, breast & nipple care, baby blues, colic, teething, nappy rash and postpartum depression (see Shanti Antenatal Comfort).
Some essential oils, blended using the correct dilution rates, are safe during pregnancy and safe when breastfeeding. Our product range offers natural blends to help with morning sickness, stress relief, antenatal headaches, stretch marks, anxiety, nipple care, labour & childbirth, post-natal blues & depression, post-op therapy and a calming remedy for babies 3-12 months.
Significant studies and trials have identified the following essential oils as labour pain relievers: lavender, frankincense, rose, jasmine, clary sage, peppermint & lemon (diluted with a carrier oil to massage abdomen or back, add to cool baths or drop on to the forehead and palms of the hand).
Furthermore, an 8-year evaluative study at Oxford Brookes University found that aromatherapy was highly effective in managing labour pains. The Study (of 8058 women) showed a drop in opiate pain relief by those who used aromatherapy. The expected 30% uptake of opiate pain relief dropped to 0.4%! Wish I knew then what I know now!
So, with much love and consideration, I formulated Empress. She is your Ultimate Labour Blend and my favourite product because it is such a quintessentially unique blend that is shared on such a meaningful, magical and memorable day. But how will Empress help you throughout labour and childbirth?
Sneak peak at how Empress will help you in labour and childbirth:
🌿Lavender – Pain management alternative for labour & delivery
🌿Clary Sage – Enhances contractions
🌿Frankincense – Breathing & respiration
🌿Peppermint – Transition stage & back labour pain
*IMPORTANT* Please keep in mind, that consultations offer flexibility and one-on-one consulting. Although Empress is an ideal blend of proportionate essential oils, you are in charge of your labour. As a Clinical Aromatherapist, on your advice, I can formulate a labour blend based on your preferred scents and experiences. Scents of Self is about what women want and what women need - the choice is yours!
